Behind the Badge and the Uniform: Honouring the Life and Challenges of Canada's Protectors
The Call to Serve
Unseen Battles
Beyond the physical risks, one of the most profound challenges faced by these groups is mental health. PTSD, anxiety, depression, and moral injury are, unfortunately, common. According to the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT), nearly 45% of public safety personnel screen positive for at least one mental health disorder, significantly higher than the general population.
Veterans, too, face unique struggles upon returning to civilian life. The transition can be jarring, with difficulties in finding employment, accessing benefits, or feeling understood by those who haven’t walked the same path.
Community Heroes, Human Hearts
In Honour, With Gratitude
Canada’s first responders, military personnel, veterans, and police officers deserve more than just recognition — they deserve understanding, support, and respect. Their courage doesn’t end when their shift does. Let’s ensure that their stories are not only heard but honoured in our communities, workplaces, and homes.
To those who serve and have served: your sacrifice is not forgotten. Your resilience inspires us all. And that is why at Harness of Joy we take pride in serving you.
